Where It Grows
They Found Out Their Fountain Was Growing The Number-One Bacteria Behind Cat UTIs.
Researchers found litter-box bacteria, E. coli included, in 2 out of 3 cats' water bowls. A recirculating fountain pushes that water through a warm pump for days, and E. coli, the number-one cause of feline UTIs, breeds in it.

Catches Hair
They Found Out The Filter Doesn't Stop The UTI Bacteria. It Grows It.
A filter is for hair, odour and taste. The makers say so themselves, and not one says bacteria. It sits wet in the loop for two weeks, and wet carbon is where bacteria breed. The pink slime that keeps coming back is the tell-tale sign.

Shinier Bowl
They Found Out Stainless Steel Doesn't Fix It. It's The Same Loop, Same Water, In A Prettier Bowl.
Vets recommend stainless steel, so they upgraded. But the bowl was never the problem. The loop is. The water in that steel bowl still went round through a plastic pump for days, and days are what E. coli needs to grow. New bowl. Same old water.

Ends Up
The E. coli Ends Up In Her Bladder And Kidneys. That's Where A UTI Begins.
E. coli is the number-one bacteria behind feline UTIs. A UTI visit runs $150 to $400. Untreated, it climbs to her kidneys: $2,500 to $5,000, and it can kill her. She drinks for a minute at a time. You never see it happen.

They Understood Fountains Are Built To Sell Filters, Not To Keep Water Fresh
$40 for the fountain. $1,100 in filters. A fountain that doesn't loop wouldn't need a filter. So in thirty years they changed the bowl three times and the loop never once. The loop is what sells the filter. The filter is the business model. Her water isn't.

Some Cats Take 21 Days To Switch. You Get 30, And A Plan.
Most cats switch within two weeks. A few need all 21 days. A few never take to still water. That's what the 30 days are for.
The 21-Day Switch Plan is in the box: her old bowl stays out for two weeks, the timer goes on 6 hours, and you press refresh while she's watching.
Your 30 days start the day it arrives, and opening the box doesn't count as using it. Arrives damaged or stops working? Replaced free. You usually ship nothing back.
The Honest Comparison
What Loops, And What Leaves.
The Questions Owners Actually Ask.
"I don't want to buy one and then she doesn't use it."
Most cats switch within about two weeks. Some need all 21 days. The 21-Day Switch Plan is printed in the box, and it is four steps:
1. Put the PureStream next to her old bowl. Leave the old bowl out for the first 14 days, but don't refill it. Let it go stale.
2. Set the timer to 6 hours.
3. Press refresh while she's in the room, so she sees fresh water arrive and hears what the sound means.
4. Day 21 is decision day. Your 30 days start the day it arrives, so you can do the 21 and still decide.
Every successful switch in our data kept the old bowl in place. None came from taking it away early.
"So the water just sits still? I thought cats need moving water."
Yes, it sits still. Moving water was never the point, fresh water was. Three controlled studies compared cats drinking from still water and from fountains, and not one found cats drink more when the water moves. What movement signals to a cat is "this is fresh". We give her the thing the movement was standing in for: a tray that empties completely and refills from a sealed tank every 6, 9 or 12 hours.
Some cats do want to see it move. If yours is one of them, that's what the 30 days are for.
"Won't the clean tank grow bacteria sitting there?"
Nothing gets into it. No paws, no fur, no saliva. The problem in an ordinary fountain was never that water sits, it's that used water is put back round, again and again. Sealed and dark, water of good quality keeps. Fill it with the water you'd drink yourself.
"What are the 6, 9 and 12 buttons for?"
How often the tray empties and refills. On 6, she gets a fresh tray four times a day. On 12, twice. The clean tank holds 2.6 litres, so 6 hours is about three days between refills for one cat. Start on 6 for the first two weeks and for multi-cat homes. The refresh button empties and refills the tray right now, whenever you press it.
"How much does it hold? Will it run dry?"
A 2.6-litre clean tank and a 1.35-litre waste tank. One tray at a time. One cat on 6 hours runs about three days before you top up. Two or more cats, or a dog who shares, want two units, one per floor. The head unit shows when the clean tank is low.
"Does it make a sound? Will it scare her?"
The dump and refill makes a short pouring sound, like a glass being filled. Whether she loves it or hides from it depends on how she first hears it. That's why step 3 of the Switch Plan is pressing refresh while she's in the room: she learns the sound means fresh water, and most owners say she comes running to it.
"Is it truly cleanable? No hidden chambers?"
Three parts touch water outside the sealed tanks: the flat steel tray, a hair screen, and the waste-tank sponge. That's the list. Rinse the tray and screen once a week, under five minutes. Swap the sponge every few months. If your water is hard, run a vinegar descale every three months. No pump to pull apart, no filter, no housing.
"I never see her drink. How do I know it's working?"
Cats on dry food drink about ten times a day, for about a minute each. Ten minutes out of twenty-four hours. Most people never see it. If you want a number: fill the clean tank, empty the waste tank, wait three days, then measure. What you top up minus what's in the waste tank is what she drank.
"Battery or plug?"
Both. About 15 days on a charge, or leave it plugged in. If the sitter forgets, it keeps running.
"Will anyone answer if it breaks?"
One email to help@trypurestream.com, answered in 1 to 2 business days by a person. If it arrives damaged or stops working, we replace it free, and you usually won't ship anything back. Opening the box doesn't count as using it.

"It's $280 for two."
It's $40, then $1,100 in filters over her life, then the vet. Or $279.95 once, and $0 a year after. Two because vets say one water station per floor, so she never walks far for water and the bold cat can't guard the only one. One is $179.95. Three for two cats is $399.95.
